Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Identify and interpret operational and environmental information
   • Read and interpret instructions and/or plans and identify processes for completion of work tasks
   • Identify and analyse the safety implications of required tools and equipment and their operating characteristics
   • Identify and analyse the safety implications of proposed flooring materials
2. Identify hazards
   • Identify and analyse work area conditions and potential hazards
   • Access and analyse safety systems information and eliminate situations covered adequately by existing procedures
   • Recognise and accurately document the type and scope of unresolved hazards and their likely impact
3. Assess risk
   • Consider and determine likelihood of the event happening
   • Evaluate and determine consequence if the event should occur
   • Consider and determine risk level based on identified likelihood and consequence
4. Identify and decide on risk treatment
   • Identify and assess treatments which may eliminate or minimise the risk
   • Subject feasible options to detailed analysis in the context of job parameters and constraints
   • Select most appropriate treatment based on analysis
5. Implement the risk treatment
   • Prepare a detailed plan for the course of risk treatment that includes actions, responsibilities and resource requirements
   • Organise resources in accordance with workplace procedures
   • Implement the risk treatment in accordance with the detailed plan, applying safety information and procedures throughout operation
   • Communicate information on the risk treatment and implementation to the relevant people
